Hatters Battle In Loss to Jacksonville

Stetson Volleyball dropped the match to Jacksonville in four sets on Saturday, October 5.

The Hatters fell in the first set 20-25. The second set was filled with drama as the Hatters went on a 6-0 scoring run to tie it at 21 and take a two-point lead. Unfortunately, Stetson couldn't hold onto the lead and fell in the second set 24-26.

The third set was another battle with the teams finding it difficult to get any separation. The Hatters trailed for most of the set until back-to-back kills from Anabelle Standish tied it up at 19. The Dolphins retook the lead, but Stetson stormed back tying it up at 24 and then 25. Standish gave the Hatters a 26-25 lead and a block by Kayla Balfour and Elif Yasar clinched the set.

Stetson battled in the fourth set before dropping the set 25-21 and the match 3-1.

Standish tallied 16 kills to lead the team and Yasar totaled 31 assists for the team lead. Defensively, Haruka Sugimoto had 23 digs as five different Hatters had double digit digs. The team also tallied 15 total blocks. Ayala Halfon was the block leader with five and Balfour was right behind her with 4.5.

Stetson will now head to Kentucky and face Bellarmine on Saturday, October 12. That match will begin at 1pm.
