Women's Golf Finishes 7th/15 in Sea Best Intercollgiate

Jansson and Hsaio Tie for 16th

JACKSONVILLE - The Stetson University women's golf team took to the links for the first time this spring season as they finished 7th place out of 15 teams in the Sea Best Intercollegiate. The event took place from February 12-13, 2024 at the San Jose Country Club, Par 72 - 6336 Yards, in Jacksonville, Florida.

Stetson finished +38 over par and posted round scores of 288, 303 and 311 for a total stroke count of 902. Stetson finished six strokes ahead of Volusia County rival Daytona State and finished ahead of ASUN rivals FGCU and Jacksonville.

Leading the Hatters in their first event since Oct. 21 was Filippa Jansson and Wendy Hsaio, who both tied for 16th place. Jansson, the sophomore from Sweden, finished +8 over after shooting a 69 in the first round. She then posted rounds of 79 and 76 to finish with 224. Hsaio, a fifth-year from Taiwan, opened the tournament with a 70 before shooting a 76 and 78 to finish with 224.

Julieta Oviedo, T-28th, and Lisa Colee, T-37th, followed suit for the Hatters, finishing +10 and +12, respectively. The former put up a pair of 73s in the first two rounds before ending with an 80 while Colee provided scores of 76, 75 and 77.

The team tallied 153 pars and 29 birdies. Jansson averaged 4.13 strokes on Par 4's and 4.92 on Par 5's while Hsaio averaged 4.75 on Par 5's. Hsaio recorded 36 pars while Oviedo followed close behind with 35. Hsaio and Colee each registered seven birdies while Jansson, who made par 32 times, led the team with eight birdies.

The squad will next take on the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational hosted by Southern Utah University. The event is scheduled for Thursday, March 7 to Saturday, March 9 at the Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George, Utah.
