The Stetson Hatters sweep Mercer and Eckerd on Saturday, Feb. 23 to start the season 2-0.

"I really enjoyed watching our team come out today and get two 5-0 wins," said Head Coach Kristina Hernandez. "We have a lot of new roles on the team, and everyone stepped up. This group is pumped to compete, so we are excited for tomorrow."

Stetson started off the season sweeping Mercer 5-0. Pair 1,
Shae Henson and
Tori Clement won 21-16, 22-20. At pair 2,
Carolina Ferraris and
Audrey Gauthier won 21-15, 21-16. The third pairing of
Vanessa Hurnikova and
Klea Sirois closed it out for Stetson in a three-set victory 21-19, 20-22, 18-16. This was Hurnikova's first victory as a member of the Hatters.Â

At pair four,
Julia Czurylo and
Gabriella Bramante won 21-13, 21-14. The freshman Czurylo earned her first collegiate victory. The fifth pairing of
Lauren Della and
Hanna Gubik started were the first pair to finish winning 21-17, 21-12. The freshman Gubik also earned her first collegiate victory.

In the second match of the day Stetson hosted Eckerd, sweeping them 5-0. At pair 1,
Shae Henson and
Tori Clement cruised to victory 21-8, 21-12. At the second pairing,
Carolina Ferraris and
Audrey Gauthier clinched the win for the Hatters 21-10, 21-9. At the third pair,
Vanessa Hurnikova and
Klea Sirois 21-13, 21-8.Â

The Hatters were forced to a third set on the fourth court.
Julia Czurylo and
Hanna Gubik won 21-13, 19-21, 15-11. At pair five,
Lauren Della and
Hanna Gubik won 21-11, and 21-16.Â

Stetson will be back tomorrow to close out the Stetson Spring Fling. They will take on Southern Mississippi at 10am and FGCU at 4pm.Â
