PENNSAUKEN, NJ - Stetson men's rowing traveled to the Cooper River for the 85th annual Dad Vail Regatta May 10th and 11th earning bronze in the single and silver in the pair. Over the weekend, the Hatters raced three boats the single, pair and varsity 8+. Time trials and semi finals took place on Friday with the petite and grand finals to be held on Saturday. All Stetson boats qualified for the semifinals and the Hatter single and pair qualified for the Grand Final, while the varsity 8+ was in the petite final.
The regatta gets its name from Harry Emerson "Dad" Vail who was one of America's early collegiate coaches. Vail was a coach at the University of Wisconsin between 1911 and the late 1920's. Vail's teams faced great odds as there was little support for rowing, despite the odds Vail was able to grow the sport with hard work and a lovable personality. The Dad Vail Regatta is one of the largest collegiate events as it continues to draw over 100 universities from the United States and Canada.
