GULLANE, Scotland - Stetson's
Dominic Clemons dominated the Scottish Men's Open Championship last week, winning the event by an astonishing 17 strokes. Clemons, a sophomore from Cambridge, England this past season, finished 24 under across the four round tournament at Muirfield in Gullane, Scotland.
Following a sensational first season with the Hatters that saw Clemons help lead Stetson to their first NCAA Appearance in program history, Clemons tallied round scores of 68, 65, 65 and 62 for a total of 260, 17 strokes ahead of the runner-up. He shot 15 under par during his two Sunday rounds to take a commanding advantage in the leader boards after jumping out with a one-shot lead after 36 holes.
Competing in a field of 144 starters from 24 nationals, Clemons secured the victory after 72 holes to become the 11th English winner of the event. Over the course of the tournament, Clemons recorded 28 birdies and only four bogeys.
No stranger to winning in Scotland, Clemons won the Scottish Boys' Under 14 Open just a few miles from Muirfield at Craigielaw just eight year prior.
He now moves up to No. 295 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings following the wining effort as he now prepares for The R&A Amateur Championship at Ballyliffin in Ireland after finishing 18th in the St. Andrews Links Trophy this past weekend.
