DeLand, Fla. – Stetson Volleyball fell to West Georgia in four sets on Friday night.
The Hatters dropped a marathon of a first set 29-27.
Anabelle Standish collected seven kills in the first set in an effort to bring her team back from behind.
Stetson started the second set in a different tone building a 5-0 lead off the first serve.
Jenna Simmons built the lead to seven on a big solo block, making it 9-2. The Hatters continued to pull away going up by thirteen to take total control of the set before winning it 25-10. After the first two sets, Stetson tallied ten total blocks.
The Hatters and Wolves traded points early in the third set before West Georgia pulled away by three. Stetson was able to claw away and tie the set at 18 before taking a 22-20 lead. However, the Hatters dropped the third set 25-22 and fell in the fourth set 25-18.
Standish finished with a team high 18 kills followed by Simmons with 14.
Leilani Vitale led the team in assists with 25 followed by
Selin Kalkan with 15. Defensively,
Haruka Sugimoto finished with a team high 19 digs and Vitale led the team in total blocks with 3.5.
Up next for the Hatters is Queens on Sunday, September 29 at the Edmunds Center. That match will begin at 1:00pm.
