Stetson Volleyball fell to the UCF Knights 0-3 Thursday evening in a battle at the Edmunds Center.
In the first set, both teams battled back and forth with neither team pulling ahead by more than two points until the Knights went ahead 21-24. Stetson fell 21-25 but they were able to stay in the set by collecting five total blocks.
During the second set, UCF pulled ahead by as many as five points, but Stetson was able to rally back and get the set back within one. The Hatters couldn't overcome the deficit, dropping the second set 23-25.
In the final set, Stetson and UCF once again were locked in an intense battle until UCF started to pull away after a timeout. The Hatters didn't give up however, and they were able to claw their way back to tie the set at 24 with back-to-back blocks by
Kayla Balfour and
Leilani Vitale. Vitale put Stetson up 25-24 but in the end the Hatters fell 25-27 in the third set.
Anabelle Standish led the way for the Hatters with 15 kills on 47 attempts and tallied 11 digs.
Nyah Molina grabbed 27 assists over the three sets while adding 12 digs.
Haruka Sugimoto and
Jenna Simmons tied for the team lead in digs with 17 and Balfour led the team in blocks with 7 total blocks.
Stetson will be back in the Edmunds Center tomorrow night, September 6, to take on UNCW at 6pm.
