DeLand, Fla. — The Stetson Hatters women's basketball team will host its annual Alzheimer's Awareness Game on Tuesday, Nov. 21, when the Hatters take on Trinity College of Jacksonville at 6:30 p.m. inside Insight Credit Union Arena at the Edmunds Center.
The Hatters will wear purple uniforms in honor of Alzheimer's Awareness, and fans are encouraged to join the team by wearing purple in support of the cause.
For Head Coach Lynn Bria, the event carries a deeply personal meaning. Bria's mother battled Alzheimer's disease for more than a decade, inspiring Bria and her team to bring greater attention to the cause.
"Most people know my mother was probably my biggest fan since I've been coaching," Bria said. "She suffered with Alzheimer's for about 13 years."
About four years ago, Stetson women's basketball joined the Alzheimer's Association Central and North Florida Chapter to help raise awareness and show support for those affected. Bria said the effort quickly became bigger than just her story.
"Many of our players have had someone in their family—a grandparent, a close friend, an aunt, or an uncle—affected by it," she said. "They're not alone. We're all in this together, and we want to be part of finding a solution one day."
Stetson fans can join that effort by helping turn the Edmunds Center purple on November 21 as the Hatters take the court for a cause close to home. Tickets are available online, by email at HatterTickets@stetson.edu, or by phone at (386) 738-4287.
For those who can't attend in person, the game will be streamed live on ESPN+, with live stats available at GoHatters.com. Fans can also follow @StetsonWBB on social media and visit GoHatters.com for the latest updates throughout the season.
