FORT MYERS, FL – Cameron Thomas and Jorah Eppley combined for 26 points, accounting for 60.5% of Stetson's scoring, but the Hatters fell to the FGCU Eagles 65-43 on the road Saturday afternoon.
Thomas led the Hatters, now 14-12 on the season and 8-6 in ASUN play, with 17 points and two steals. Diawna Carter-Hartley added seven points and eight rebounds, while Eppley chipped in nine points off the bench. Stetson's bench came alive, contributing 19 points to the total.
The Hatters started off slow, falling behind 18-4 at the end of the first quarter. Their deficit grew in the second, and they found themselves down 39-11 at halftime.
The second half saw Stetson's deficit continue to balloon, as the Hatters trailed 61-23 heading into the fourth quarter.
However, Stetson mounted a strong push in the final frame, opening the fourth quarter with a 12-0 run to cut the gap to 61-35 with 4:39 remaining. The Hatters kept fighting, outscoring FGCU 20-4 in the quarter, but the Eagles held on for the 65-43 victory.
Stetson will next travel to Carrollton, Ga., to face the ASUN newcomer West Georgia Wolves on Thursday, February 20, at 5:30 PM.
