Dominate Second Half Propels Stetson to 68-58 Win over West Georgia

CARROLLTON, GA – The Stetson Hatters erased a 10-point deficit late in the third quarter to secure a 68-58 road victory over the West Georgia Wolves on Thursday night.

Trailing 41-31 with 5:49 left in the third, Stetson (15-12, 9-6 ASUN) responded with a 12-0 run to take the lead and never looked back. Four Hatters scored in double figures, led by Tiasia McMillan, who posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. McMillan's performance followed her milestone achievement of hitting 1,000 career points in the previous game.

Diawna Carter-Hartley also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, marking just the second time this season that two Hatters have accomplished the feat in the same game. Quentarra Mitchell added 11 points off the bench, while Shelby Calhoun contributed 10 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks.

Stetson dominated the glass, out-rebounding West Georgia 54-27, including a game-high 14 boards from Carter-Hartley. The Hatters' relentless effort on the offensive glass translated into 24 second-chance points off 21 offensive rebounds.

Defensively, Stetson stifled the Wolves, holding them to just 38.3 percent shooting from the field and 14.3 percent from three-point range. The Hatters clamped down in the fourth quarter, limiting West Georgia to 22.2 percent shooting and an 0-for-5 mark from deep to seal the win.

Stetson started strong with a 6-0 run, capped by a Mary McMillan bucket, but West Georgia fought back to take a 10-8 lead after the first quarter. The Wolves built an 18-15 advantage in the second before Stetson responded with another 6-0 run, highlighted by a Calhoun basket, to go up 21-18. However, West Georgia closed the half on a surge, sending Stetson into the break trailing 27-23.

After halftime, the Wolves extended their lead to 41-31, but the Hatters stormed back with a 12-0 run, punctuated by a Tiasia McMillan layup, to reclaim the lead at 43-41 with 2:21 left in the third. West Georgia managed to tie the game at 47-47 heading into the fourth, but Stetson took control from there.

The Hatters opened the final period with a 7-0 burst, capped by a Jorah Eppley three-pointer, to grab a 54-47 lead with 8:17 remaining. Stetson continued to build on its advantage, cruising to the 68-58 victory.

Stetson will remain on the road, traveling to Charlotte for a matchup against the Queens Royals on Saturday, February 22, at 2:00 PM.
