CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Stetson Hatters got 20 points from their bench but fell 75-64 to Queens (NC) on Saturday night, closing out their regular-season road schedule.
Stetson (15-13, 9-7 ASUN) had just two players reach double figures, led by Shelby Calhoun with 16 points and two steals. Cameron Thomas added 12 points, while Jorah Eppley chipped in seven points and two steals.
Thomas also led the team with five rebounds, and Quentarra Mitchell grabbed four offensive boards, but the Hatters were edged on the glass 31-28.
Stetson started strong with an 8-0 run, capped by a Calhoun bucket, to take an early lead with 8:19 left in the first quarter. However, Queens responded, and the Hatters trailed 18-17 after the opening period.
The Royals extended their advantage in the second quarter, outscoring Stetson 22-10 to take a 40-27 lead into halftime.
Queens built its largest lead at 54-35 late in the third before Stetson used a 6-0 run to trim the deficit to 54-41. The Royals, however, maintained control and took a 55-41 edge into the fourth.
Trailing 67-48 midway through the final quarter, the Hatters made a late push with a 10-0 run to get within nine at 67-58 with 2:20 to play, but they couldn't get any closer.
Stetson now returns home to the Insight Credit Union Arena to close out the regular season, beginning with North Florida on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 7:00 p.m.
