Stetson Shoots 52.6 Percent from Deep, Defeats North Florida 71-63

DeLAND, FL – The Stetson Hatters secured a 71-63 victory over the North Florida Ospreys Thursday night at the Insight Credit Union Arena, shooting 52.6 percent from beyond the arc. The win was key as Stetson continued its push for a home conference tournament game, improving to 12-2 at home and 7-1 in home ASUN play, with a season record of 16-13 and 10-7 in the conference.

Cameron Thomas led the Hatters with 25 points and six rebounds, marking her 11th game of the season with 20 or more points. Tyra Myers contributed 10 points off the bench, while Quentarra Mitchell added 10 points and seven rebounds. Diawna Carter-Hartley led the team with nine rebounds, helping Stetson dominate the boards 36-26. Shelby Calhoun had an all-around performance with 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Stetson's offense was impressive, knocking down 10 of 19 three-pointers, with Thomas sinking a season-high six. The Hatters also showed excellent ball movement, recording assists on 82 percent of their made field goals. Defensively, Stetson forced 13 turnovers, converting them into 14 points, while six players recorded steals, and Mitchell added a chase-down block. The Hatters held North Florida to just 20 percent shooting from three-point range (4-20).

Stetson opened the game with a 9-0 run, capped by a basket from Thomas, and led 16-4 at the end of the first quarter, with eight of their points coming in the paint. They extended their lead to 19-6 before going on a 6-0 run in the second quarter, highlighted by a three-pointer from Thomas, to increase their advantage to 25-6. Though North Florida managed to trim the deficit, Stetson still led 37-22 at halftime, with four of their 21 second-quarter points coming from three-point shots.

In the third quarter, Stetson pushed its lead to 52-35 after a 7-0 run, capped by a basket from Mitchell. North Florida cut into the lead but the Hatters still led 54-43 entering the final period, with three-pointers accounting for nine of their 17 third-quarter points. Stetson held strong in the fourth, with the bench contributing seven of the team's 17 points to close out the victory.

The Hatters will now wrap up the regular season on Saturday when they host the FGCU Eagles at the Insight Credit Union Arena for Senior Day.
