DeLand, Fla. – Stetson beach volleyball continued its strong start to the season with a pair of 5-0 sweeps over Stephen F. Austin and Eckerd, bringing their record to a perfect 4-0.
"It's great to start the season out 4-0 with all sweeps, especially at home, with a new group and brand new courts." said Head Coach Kristina Hernandez. "Katie and Maria played a tough third set against SFA to seal and sweep and we mixed some things during Eckerd and the team responded well. It was an incredible weekend for our team and fans as they got to experience the new Cooper Beach Courts. The energy was amazing. We are excited to get back to work and prepare for our trip to Arizona!"
In the first match against Stephen F. Austin, Vanessa Hurnikova and Hanna Gubik dominated on court 5 with a 21-7, 21-11 victory, putting Stetson on the board. Youna Coens and Grace Goudy followed up with a 21-12, 21-18 win on court 2, and Marta Carro and Julia Radelczuk earned their point with a 21-18, 21-14 victory. Julia Czurylo and Madeline Camp added a 21-12, 21-15 win on court 4, and Katie Camp and Maria Ozaeta sealed the sweep with a 21-15, 15-21, 15-7 win on court 1.
For the match against Eckerd, Stetson made some lineup changes. Coens and Goudy moved to court 1 and took the first point with a 21-11, 21-15 win. Hurnikova and Radelczuk followed with a 21-9, 21-11 victory on court 4. Czurylo and M. Camp switched to court 3 and won 21-7, 21-14. Gubik teamed up with Danielle Hernandez on court 5, earning a 21-12, 21-19 win. Katie Camp and Caroline De Oliveira completed the sweep with a 21-14, 22-20 victory on court 2.
The Hatters will head to Arizona for the Cactus Classic, where they will face Grand Canyon at 12:00 p.m. and Arizona State at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28.
