Tucson, AZ – Stetson beach volleyball suffered 4-1 losses to #18 Grand Canyon and #11 Arizona State on Friday, February 28, at the Cactus Classic.

The Hatters began the day against #18 Grand Canyon. The reigning ASUN Pair of the Week, Youna Coens and Grace Goudy, secured Stetson's lone point with a thrilling three-set win on court two, 21-19, 12-21, 16-14.

On court 1, Katie Campa and Maria Ozaeta battled hard, forcing a third set before ultimately falling 18-21, 21-10, 14-16. Marta Carro and Julia Radelczuk also pushed their match to three sets on court 3, winning the first set but losing the next two, 21-18, 18-21, 13-15.

Julia Czurylo and Madeline Camp lost on court 4, 19-21, 12-21, while Vanessa Hurnikova and Hanna Gubik were defeated on court 5, 19-21, 14-21.

Against #11 Arizona State, Czurylo and M. Camp responded with Stetson's point, winning 21-19, 22-20 on court 4.

Ozaeta and Campa fell in straight sets on court 1, 19-21, 16-21, while Coens and Goudy dropped their match on court 2, 19-21, 14-21. Carro and Radelczuk fell in three sets on court 3, 13-21, 21-16, 8-15. Hurnikova and Gubik lost on court 5, 21-23, 16-21.

The Hatters will look to rebound on the second day of the Cactus Classic, facing Arizona and Oregon at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
