DeLand, Fla. – Stetson beach volleyball split the opening day of the Stetson Beach Blast, starting with a 5-0 sweep over Erskine before falling 5-0 to #7 Florida State.
Against Erskine, Vanessa Hurnikova and Hanna Gubik set the tone on court 5, dominating their match 21-7, 21-1 to give Stetson the first point. Marta Carro and Julia Radelczuk followed with a solid 21-10, 21-6 win on court 3. Julia Czurylo and Madeline Camp made it 3-0 with a 21-3, 21-12 victory on court 4. Youna Coens and Grace Goudy added another point with a 21-11, 21-14 win on court 2, and Katie Camp and Maria Ozaeta wrapped up the sweep on court 1, taking their match 21-13, 21-15.
In the final match of the day, Stetson faced off against #7 Florida State. Ozaeta and K. Camp dropped a tight contest on court 1, 18-21, 19-21. Carro and Radelczuk moved to court 2 and were narrowly defeated 22-24, 19-21. Coens and Goudy fell 14-21, 15-21 on court 3, while Hurnikova and Gubik, playing on court 4, lost 18-21, 16-21. Czurylo and M. Camp managed to push their match to three sets but ultimately fell 12-21, 21-15, 9-15.
The Hatters will conclude the Stetson Beach Blast on Saturday, March 22, facing Palm Beach Atlantic at 8:00 a.m. and Florida Atlantic at 10:30 a.m.
