Huntsville, AL – Stetson Beach Volleyball opened the ASUN Championship with a dominant performance Thursday morning, sweeping #8 seed Austin Peay in the First Round.
"Today was great start to the tourney," said Head Coach
Kristina Hernandez. "I felt our team was in a very strong head space and focused on executing our game. Our focus will be on us and taking care of what we can control and playing our game."
The Hatters came out firing, with
Madeline Camp and
Julia Czurylo setting the tone on court five with a commanding 21-5, 21-10 win.
Grace Goudy and
Vanessa Hurnikova followed up with a 21-9, 22-20 victory on court four.
Youna Coens and
Caroline De Oliveira secured the clinching point on court three, winning 21-15, 21-18.
Katie Camp and
Maria Ozaeta added to the tally with a 21-11, 21-12 win on court two, and
Marta Carro and
Julia Radelczuk closed out the sweep on court one, battling through a tight second set to win 21-12, 23-21.
With the win, Stetson moves on to face #4 North Alabama in the Second Round at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25. North Alabama earned their spot by defeating #5 Jacksonville 4-1 in their First Round matchup.
