DeLand, Fla. — Stetson men's basketball will wrap up its homestand this week, hosting West Georgia on Thursday, Jan. 15, at 7:00 p.m., before welcoming Queens to DeLand on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 2:00 p.m.
Stetson enters the week at 6–11 overall and 2–2 in ASUN play after splitting matchups against Lipscomb and Austin Peay. The Hatters earned a 91–83 victory over defending conference champion Lipscomb behind a career-high 30 points from
Jamie Phillips Jr., marking his third straight 20-plus point performance and his first 30-point game at Stetson. Phillips added six rebounds, six assists, two steals, and a block in the win and continues to lead the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
Ethan Copeland remains a steady offensive presence, averaging 12.6 points per game while shooting 39 percent from three-point range and leading the team with 27 steals. Copeland recorded his first double-double of the season against Austin Peay with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Calvin Sirmans III continues to orchestrate the offense, pacing the Hatters with a team-high 73 assists.
Collin Kuhl has showcased his two-way ability, scoring a career-high 18 points while grabbing six rebounds against Austin Peay. As a team, Stetson is averaging 70 points per game while shooting 43 percent from the field, 32 percent from beyond the arc, and 65 percent from the free-throw line.
West Georgia enters Thursday's matchup with a 9–7 overall record and a 3–1 start to ASUN play. The Wolves feature three players averaging double figures, led by Shelton Williams-Dryden at 19.1 points per game, who also tops the team in rebounding at 9.3 per contest. Josh Smith adds 16.0 points per game, while Chas Lewless contributes 12.8. Kolten Griffin leads the Wolves in assists with 46 and steals with 20, while Kenneth Chime anchors the defense with a team-high 27 blocks. West Georgia is averaging 76 points per game while shooting 43 percent from the field, 35 percent from three-point range, and 72 percent from the free-throw line.
Queens comes to DeLand with a 9–8 overall record and a perfect 4–0 mark in ASUN play. The Royals will face FGCU prior to Saturday's contest. Nasir Mann leads Queens in scoring at 14.3 points per game, while also topping the team in rebounding (5.6 per game) and steals (18). Chris Ashby follows closely at 12.6 points per contest, with Yoav Berman and Avantae Parker rounding out the double-digit scorers at 11.2 and 10.9 points per game, respectively. Jordan Watford facilitates the offense with 72 assists, while Parker leads the team in blocks with 19. Queens averages 84 points per game as a team while shooting 47 percent from the field, 36 percent from three, and 72 percent from the free-throw line.
Thursday's game marks the third all-time meeting between Stetson and West Georgia, with the Hatters holding a 2–0 advantage after sweeping the season series last year. Saturday's matchup will be the seventh all-time meeting between Stetson and Queens.
