ESTERO, Fla. – Stetson University sophomore Uy Doan fired a 9-under 135 over 36 holes Monday to take the individual lead following the opening two rounds of the West Bay Collegiate Invitational at West Bay Club.
Doan, a native of Hanoi, Vietnam, carded rounds of 68-67 and holds a one-stroke lead over Caden Lee of Appalachian State and Christian Figueredo of Florida Gulf Coast. Classmate Thanattasorn Supinraj also enters Tuesday's final round of the 54-hole event among the top 10 individuals. The Udon Thani, Thailand, native shares ninth place at 4-under 140 after rounds of 69-71.
Seniors Simon Engman and Gabriel Lindahl are tied for 51st at 3-over 147. Both players posted identical rounds of 73-74. Junior Jack Northgraves rebounded from an opening-round 77 with a 1-under 71 and is tied for 58th at 4-over 148. Freshman Federico Randazzo, competing as an individual, is tied for 75th at 9-over 153.
As a team, Stetson is in fourth place at 10-under 566, just eight strokes behind tournament co-leaders Florida Gulf Coast and Appalachian State, who both stand at 18-under 558 in the 15-team field.
The Hatters recorded a tournament-best 47 birdies over the opening two rounds, while Doan leads the 88-player field in par-4 scoring at 3.75. Supinraj recorded a tournament-best 12 birdies.
The Hatters return to the 6,939-yard, par-72 West Bay Club at 9 a.m. Tuesday for the tournament's final round.
Following the West Bay Collegiate Invitational, Stetson will conclude its fall season at The Bryson Invitational, Oct. 12-14 at Doral Resort and Spa in Miami.
