MOBILE, Ala. — The Stetson women's golf team sits fourth after the opening day of the Magnolia Collegiate Invitational at the RTJ Magnolia Grove Golf Course, completing two rounds Monday in the 14-team field.
The Hatters opened the tournament in fifth place after shooting 17-over-par in the first round before responding with a strong second round. Stetson carded a 9-over-par team score in round two, the second-lowest round of the day, to climb one spot on the leaderboard and finish the day at 26-over-par overall.
Isaki Sakashita leads the Hatters and is tied for first place individually after posting rounds of 74 and 73. Her two-round total of 147 (+3) has her sharing the top spot heading into Tuesday's final round.
Filippa Jansson also finds herself inside the top 10, sitting tied for seventh at 5-over-par after rounds of 75 and 74. Ailsa Brannock is tied for 22nd at 153 (+9), improving in round two with a 75 after opening with a 78.
Freshman Maggie Potash, competing as an individual, is tied for 29th after posting rounds of 78 and 76 on Monday. Julieta Oviedo is tied for 41st at 156 (+12) following rounds of 81 and 75, while Anna Huettl rounds out the Stetson lineup tied for 64th at 162 (+18) with scores of 78 and 84.
As a team, the Hatters once again excelled on the par 4s, averaging a tournament-best 4.19 on those holes through two rounds. Stetson has also recorded 111 pars so far, the second-most in the field, along with 16 birdies.
Sakashita leads the Hatters with five birdies across the first two rounds, while she and Jansson have combined for 29 pars, with Jansson accounting for 25 of them.
The Hatters will look to continue their climb up the leaderboard when the final round begins Tuesday in Mobile. Stetson is scheduled to start the final round at 9:30 a.m. CT with a shotgun start. There is a chance of a delay due to forecasted frost overnight, and officials will evaluate course conditions Tuesday morning.
