ST. GEORGE, Utah —The Stetson women's golf team sits in second place after two rounds of the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational at Sunbrook Golf Club, entering Sunday's final round firmly in contention.
After opening the tournament with a 6-over-par 294 to take the first-round lead, the Hatters responded with a strong 1-under-par team round on Saturday. Stetson now sits at 5-over-par for the tournament, four strokes behind Weber State, which surged into the lead after posting a 7-under round two. Wyoming is currently third, one stroke behind the Hatters.
Individually, Isaki Sakashita moved into a tie for the tournament lead after firing a 2-under-par 70 in round two. Sakashita recorded five birdies on the day and now sits at 2-under-par for the tournament heading into the final round.
Anna Huettl also made a significant move up the leaderboard with the Hatters' best round of the day. Huettl carded a 3-under-par 69 to climb into a tie for third place at even par overall. She caught fire early in the round, posting a 3-under 33 on the front nine with four birdies.
Filippa Jansson, who led Stetson in the opening round, is now tied for eighth place at 2-over-par after posting a 3-over 75 in round two.
Ailsa Brannock improved her position from a tie for 15th after round one to a tie for 13th after shooting a 1-over-par round on Saturday. Julieta Oviedo also moved up the leaderboard, climbing from a tie for 20th to a tie for 19th following a 3-over-par 75 in the second round.
The Hatters will look to close the gap when the final round begins Sunday. Despite the change to Daylight Saving Time overnight, the final round is still scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. ET.
