ST. GEORGE, Utah — The Stetson women's golf team carried its momentum west on Friday and holds the lead after the opening round of the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational at Sunbrook Golf Club.
The Hatters, coming off a team victory at the Babs Steffens Invitational earlier this week, posted a team score of 294 (+6) to take the early lead in the nine-team field. Stetson sits one stroke ahead of Wyoming and two strokes clear of Weber State after 18 holes.
Filippa Jansson paced the Hatters with a 1-under-par 71 and is tied for second individually heading into the second round. Fresh off earning ASUN Women's Golfer of the Week honors, Isaki Sakashita sits tied for fourth after carding an even-par 72.
Anna Huettl is tied for 10th with a 3-over-par 75, while Ailsa Brannock finished the day tied for 15th at 4-over-par 76. Julieta Oviedo rounded out the Stetson lineup with a 5-over-par 77 and is tied for 20th.
The Hatters will look to maintain their position atop the leaderboard when play resumes with the second round Saturday. Tee time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. ET.
