DeLAND, Fla. — Stetson erupted offensively Sunday afternoon, using a pair of big innings to roll past the Queens Royals 13-3 in a run-rule victory at Melching Field at Conrad Park.
The Hatters (14-21, 5-9 ASUN) showcased a balanced attack, combining timely hitting, patient at-bats, and aggressive baserunning to pull away after falling behind early. Stetson finished with 10 hits, drew nine walks, and went 7-for-14 with runners in scoring position in the win.
Queens struck first with a pair of early runs, but Stetson's pitching staff limited further damage and kept the Hatters within striking distance through the first four innings. Connor Ball settled in after the opening frames, working 4.2 innings and allowing just one earned run while keeping Queens from building on its early momentum.
The turning point came in the fifth inning, when the Hatters' offense came to life. After loading the bases, Stetson capitalized on disciplined at-bats and well-placed contact to push across five runs in the frame. Foster Apple delivered a key two-run groundout, while Landon Russell and Samuel Fernandez followed with RBI singles through the infield to give Stetson a 5-2 lead.
Queens answered with a run in the top of the sixth, but Stetson immediately responded with its most impactful swing of the day. With the bases loaded, Russell ripped a double down the left field line, clearing the bases and igniting a four-run inning that stretched the lead to 9-3.
The Hatters continued to apply pressure in the eighth, taking advantage of additional free passes and timely hitting to plate four more runs. Renzo Gonzalez delivered a two-run single down the right field line, and Stetson added insurance with productive outs, including a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring at 13-3.
Out of the bullpen, Joel Core bridged the middle innings before Dallis Moran closed the door in dominant fashion. The right-hander struck out five over 2.1 hitless innings, retiring the final seven batters he faced to secure the run-rule victory.
At the plate, Russell led the charge with a 3-for-4 performance and a season-high five RBIs, while Apple reached base five times, going 2-for-2 with three walks, three runs scored, and three RBIs. Gonzalez added two hits and three RBIs, and Stetson continued to generate offense throughout the lineup.
