Stetson Names Men's Golf Tournament in Honor of Sandy Edinger

DeLAND, Fla. – Stetson University Athletics will name one of its annual intercollegiate tournaments the Sandy Edinger Collegiate, recognizing one of the most influential figures in the history of the Hatters' men's golf program.

The Sandy Edinger Collegiate will be played April 12-13, 2027, on the Arthur Hills Signature Course at LPGA International in Daytona Beach.

A former Stetson men's golfer and 1965 graduate, Edinger has placed decades of dedication to Stetson University and both its men and women's golf programs, helping build two of the premier programs in the Atlantic Sun Conference. In 2022, the university opened the state-of the-art Edinger Golf Practice Facility in recognition of Edinger and his wife, Martha.

"Sandy's impact on Stetson University extends far beyond competitive success," said Stetson Director of Athletics Ricky Ray. "He is devoted to Stetson and helped establish our men's and women's golf programs as among the nation's most respected. Renaming our annual tournament in his honor is a fitting tribute to his extraordinary legacy and the countless lives he has influenced."

The Sandy Edinger Collegiate will continue to attract a strong field of NCAA Division I programs and serve as one of the premier spring events on the collegiate golf calendar. The Hills Course at LPGA International has hosted the tournament since its inception and provides one of Florida's top championship venues for collegiate competition.

Stetson head men's golf coach Danny Forshey said the tournament's new name is a well-deserved recognition of the influence Edinger has placed on the Hatters program.

"Sandy's impact on Stetson Golf is immeasurable," Forshey said. "The standard of excellence he established continues to inspire our program today.

His commitment to developing student-athletes on and off the golf course created a legacy that deserves to be celebrated, and we're proud to have our home tournament bear his name."

Additional information, including the participating teams and tournament schedule, will be announced closer to the event.
