DELAND, Fla. — Stetson women's soccer returns to the Athletic Training Center on Sunday, Aug. 30, welcoming South Florida to DeLand for a 6 p.m. matchup. The contest marks the first women's soccer game since students have returned to campus and will serve as Back to Campus Night, with schedule posters available to fans while supplies last.
Scouting the Hatters
The Hatters return home following a two-game road trip that included matchups against Kennesaw State and Troy. After opening the season at the ATC against reigning national champion and No. 4-ranked Florida State, Stetson will look to put together a strong home performance in front of its student body Sunday.
Clare Boesel has started all three matches in goal and has made 12 saves, including a career-high nine against Florida State. She enters Sunday's matchup with a .600 save percentage and has provided a steady presence in goal for the Hatters throughout the opening stretch of the season.
Stetson has recorded 16 shots through its first three matches, including a season-high 10 against Troy. Julianna Liguori and Eva McCoy lead the Hatters with four shots apiece, while Payton Quinones has recorded a team-best two shots on goal.
Bianca Mazzaferro has started every match along the back line and has played all 270 minutes this season, while Stella Comana has logged 266 minutes. Comana has provided an attacking spark from the left side, using her speed and ability to draw fouls to help Stetson create opportunities in the attacking third.
The Hatters have also shown their ability to compete defensively early in the season, holding both Florida State and Kennesaw State scoreless through the opening 45 minutes. Stetson will look to put together a complete 90-minute performance as it returns to the ATC.
Scouting the Opponent
South Florida enters Sunday's matchup also looking for its first win of the season after opening the year with losses to Gonzaga, Washington State and UCF.
Maya Hindson and Amelia Malkin have accounted for the Bulls' goals through the first three matches. Hindson has recorded four shots, while Malkin leads the team with seven.
Gaby Rourke has started all three matches in goal for South Florida, making 11 saves in nearly 250 minutes of action. Kylie Sandulak has also seen time in goal, playing just over 20 minutes and recording a save on the only shot she faced.
Series History
Sunday's contest will mark the 18th all-time meeting between Stetson and South Florida. The Hatters have earned three victories and two draws in the series.
