JUPITER, Fla. – Stetson sophomore transfer Uy Doan finished with a flourish Monday, making a birdie and an eagle on his final two holes to take sole possession of first place following the opening two rounds of the Florida Atlantic Invitational at The Bear's Club.
The Hatters remained among the team leaders throughout the first 36 holes and enter Tuesday's final round in third place at 15-under par, three strokes behind co-leaders North Florida and host Florida Atlantic. The 11-team field returns to the 7,313-yard, par-72 layout for tomorrow's final round with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
Doan, a native of Hanoi, Vietnam, holds a one-stroke lead in the 66-player field after carding rounds of 66 and 68 to finish the day at 10-under par. He leads Parker Severs, playing as an individual for the University of Florida, and Danny Wehle of North Florida by one stroke.
Stetson's Thanattasorn Supinraj is tied for sixth at 5-under par after rounds of 72 and 67, while Simon Engman is tied for 22nd at 2-under par with scores of 70 and 72.
Gabriel Lindahl and Federico Randazzo are tied for 44th at 4-over par. Lindahl posted rounds of 75 and 73, while Randazzo, playing in his first collegiate tournament, rebounded from an opening-round 77 with a 1-under 71 in the afternoon round.
Jack Northgraves, competing as an individual, is tied for 50th at 5-over par following rounds of 74 and 75.
A transfer from Southern Utah, Doan entered his final two holes of the day at 7-under par. He birdied the long 503-yard, par-4 17th before delivering a dramatic finish on the par-5, 570-yard 18th. Doan chipped in from just off the green for an eagle to move into sole possession of the individual lead.
Following the Florida Atlantic Invitational, Stetson returns to action Oct. 5-6 at the West Bay Collegiate at West Bay Club in Estero, Fla.
