MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Senior Simon Engman climbed 12 spots on the individual leaderboard to join teammate Uy Doan in a tie for 11th place, while the Stetson men's golf team moved up three spots into a tie for sixth following Monday's second round of the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate at Grande Dunes Resort Club.
The Hatters carded a second-round score of 1-under par to move to 5-under for the tournament, tying Kennesaw State for sixth place in the 16-team field. Stetson is just one stroke behind UTSA and three strokes behind Campbell entering Tuesday's final round.
Coastal Carolina, the tournament host, leads the team standings at 19-under par, one stroke ahead of Elon.
The field will return to the 7,578-yard, par-72 course Tuesday morning for the final round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament.
Engman and Doan are both 4-under par through 36 holes.
A native of Gothenburg, Sweden, Engman has posted consecutive rounds of 2-under 70. He climbed 12 spots on the leaderboard Monday and shares the tournament lead in par-5 scoring at 4.25. A two-time third-team All-ASUN selection, Engman ranked second on the team in scoring average last season.
Doan, a transfer from Southern Utah, followed Sunday's career-best 4-under 68 with an even-par 72 on Monday.
Sophomore Thanattasorn Supinraj is tied for 34th at 1-over par, while senior Gabriel Lindahl climbed five spots and is tied for 48th at 3-over.
Junior transfer Jack Northgraves also made a significant move Monday, climbing 11 spots after improving his score by two strokes. He enters the final round tied for 59th at 5-over par.
Following the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate, Stetson will return to action Sept. 21-22 at the Florida Atlantic Invitational at The Bear's Club in Jupiter, Fla. The Hatters are scheduled to compete in four tournaments during the fall season.
