DELAND, Fla. — Stetson women's soccer returns home Thursday, Sept. 10, when the Hatters welcome FIU to the Athletic Training Center for a 7 p.m. matchup as part of Kid's Club Night.
Scouting the Hatters
Stetson returns to the Athletic Training Center Thursday looking to build on the opportunities created throughout the opening weeks of the season. The Hatters have shown encouraging signs on both sides of the ball and will look to put together a complete performance in front of the home crowd as they begin a four-match homestand.
Clare Boesel has started every match in goal for the Hatters and has made 17 saves, including a career-high nine against No. 4 Florida State. She enters Thursday's matchup with a .567 save percentage and has provided a steady presence in goal throughout the opening weeks of the season.
Stetson has recorded 27 shots through its first five matches, including a season-high 10 against Troy.
Eva McCoy leads the Hatters with five shots, followed by
Julianna Liguori and
Payton Quinones with four apiece. Quinones has also been Stetson's most accurate attacking option, leading the team with three shots on goal.
Stella Comana is one of eight Hatters to start every match this season and has logged a team-high 441 minutes along the back line. Comana has also provided an attacking spark from the left side, using her speed and ability to draw fouls to help Stetson create opportunities in the attacking third. Boesel and
Bianca Mazzaferro have also been key fixtures in the lineup, playing 417 and 416 minutes, respectively.
Scouting the Opponent
FIU enters Thursday's matchup with a 1-3-3 record after dropping a 1-0 decision to Miami. The Panthers picked up their first win of the season against Howard, earning a 5-1 victory, and also recorded consecutive draws against North Florida and Florida Gulf Coast.
FIU has seven different goal scorers this season, with Maya Maxwell and Yuzu Tanida leading the Panthers with two goals apiece. Maxwell has also added two assists and is tied with Mariana Barreto for the team lead in that category.
Valery Restrepo has started all seven matches in goal for FIU, recording 30 saves while facing 90 shots. She enters Thursday's matchup with a .714 save percentage and a 1.71 goals-against average.
Series History
Thursday's matchup will mark the 29th all-time meeting between Stetson and FIU. The Hatters' most recent victory in the series came on Aug. 29, 2024, when Stetson defeated the Panthers in DeLand.
