Jacksonville, Fla. - The Stetson women's golf team turned in another solid 305 (+17) team score for the second straight day to finish second in the 11-team Jacksonville University Classic at Hidden Hills Country Club on Tuesday. The Hatters, who were 34 over par as a team over 36 holes, led all NCAA Division I teams in the field, trailing only tournament champion Daytona State (+20). Freshman Alexandria Buelow (Palm City, Fla.) shot one over par 73 and tied for third place.
Buelow improved on her first round score by one stroke to finish three over par overall, three strokes behind DSC's Mitsuki Katahira, the tournament champion. Bambee Dela Paz (Cincinnati) placed second at two over par while Buelow tied with first round leader Amy West (Daytona State).
Stetson also received top 10 finishes from sophomore Lauren Cate (St. Augustine, Fla.) and freshman Anna Hancock (Lakeland, Fla.), who each tied for eighth place at 10 over par as well as senior Danielle Jackson (Seminole, Fla.). Hancock shot 77 on Tuesday while Cate carded a 78; Jackson's 77 brought her home in a tie for 10th place at 11 over par. Junior Alex Banham (Birmingham, England) shot her second consecutive 78 to tie for 12th place at 12 over par, her best career finish since tying for eighth at the 2007 Hatter Fall Classic as a freshman.
Senior Lauren Darnell (Gainesville, Ga.) and junior Lauren Eliopoulos (Akron, Ohio) completed their tournaments as individuals with rounds of 80 and 89, respectively. Darnell tied for 26th at 18 over par while Eliopoulos placed 52nd overall at +35.
The Falcons (+20) and Hatters (+34) finished far ahead of third place Cincinnati, which came in at 49 over par. Samford (+55), FGCU (+59), Bradley (+61), host Jacksonville (+68), Bethune-Cookman (+73), Presbyterian (+80), North Dakota (+118) and South Dakota (+215) rounded out the field.
Stetson is back in action March 1-2 when it heads to Mobile, Ala. for the University of South Alabama Lady Jaguar Invitational.
