DeLand, Fla. - Stetson senior pitcher Amanda Lindsey (Byhalia, Miss.) threw a no-hitter for the second time in her last three starts, blanking Austin Peay 2-0 in the first game of a softball doubleheader at Patricia Wilson Field on Tuesday evening. APSU defeated the Hatters 5-1 in the nightcap; Stetson is now 11-9 on the season. Sophomore first baseman Carolyn Boyd (Germantown, Tenn.) had three hits on the night, two of them doubles.
Stetson Head Coach Frank Griffin earned his 700th career victory with Lindsey's no-hitter in the opener. His lifetime record in 21 collegiate seasons is 700-376; he is 475-289 in 14 years with the Hatters.
The Lady Govs managed just one baserunner in seven innings against Lindsey in the opener, a leadoff walk drawn by left fielder Tiffany Smith to lead off the top of the fifth. By that time, Stetson had already scored the only two runs it would need. Lindsey walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the first to make it 1-0 and junior right fielder Rachel Lowe (Okeechobee, Fla.) lashed an RBI double to right center in the bottom of the second to plate freshman pinch runner Chelsea Whalley (Calgary, Alta.).
Lindsey struck out nine batters, including five of the last six Lady Govs, and only allowed one ball to be hit out of the infield. Boyd went two for three with a double while junior third baseman Jill Semento (Umatilla, Fla.) collected her first triple of the year.
Austin Peay (5-14) struck for two runs in the second and three more in the third to take the nightcap 5-1. Catcher Amy Mills hit an RBI double in the second and second baseman Randal Davenport had a two-run single in the third for the big blows. Stetson senior catcher Jessica Lokeinsky (Cooper City, Fla.) got the Hatters on the board with a long solo home run to left field in the bottom of the fourth, but that was all the home team could muster against Lady Govs pitcher Morgan Brewer. Brewer scattered four hits and three walks in a complete game victory, striking out three.
Senior pitcher Nicole Peltz (Navarre, Fla.) came on in relief and tossed four shutout innings of one-hit ball with five strikeouts. Freshman Courtney Gunby (Bishop, Ga.) started the game and struck out three but was tagged with the loss. Lokeinsky's second home run of the season and Boyd's second double of the night were the only Hatter extra-base hits.
Stetson hosts Southern Illinois (13-6) at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Patricia Wilson Field. Live Stats and Hatter Vision are available for the contest at www.GoHatters.com, the official online home of Stetson Athletics.
