The Stetson women's tennis team (6-4, 1-0) recorded its
second consecutive sweep, defeating Northern Kentucky (0-7, 0-1) by a score of
7-0 on Thursday afternoon at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
"It's nice to get our first conference match of the season
under our belt," Director of Tennis Pierre Pilote said. "Northern Kentucky has
a nice nucleus of players to build on."
Stetson began the match by sweeping the doubles matches and
taking a 1-0 lead. Junior Diana Bukajeva and senior Jen Miller were victorious
at number two doubles, defeating Claire Spradlin and Holly Robinson by a score
of 8-1.
Junior Lindsey Cable and freshman Eveline Lepinay then defeated
Jamie Diaz and Kristina Abramovich by a score of 8-1 to give Stetson the early
lead. Senior Sara Lazarevic and freshman
Andrea Crespo concluded the doubles portion of the match with an 8-2 victory at
the number one position.
In singles, the Hatters did not drop a set en route to the
sweep. In fact, Stetson lost just eight games overall in singles play. At number six, Lepinay defeated Diaz 6-0, 6-0,
and her doubles partner, Cable, followed that with a 6-0, 6-0 win of her own,
defeating Robinson at number five. Miller followed suit by defeating Abramovich
6-0, 6-0 to clinch the match for the Hatters.
At number one singles, Crespo defeated Marta Romeo 6-0, 6-2,
and at number three singles, Bukajeva defeated Shana Kleynen 6-2, 6-1. The
final match of the day saw Lazarevic defeat Spradlin 6-1, 6-2 to give Stetson
the clean sweep, 7-0.
Stetson continues conference play this Saturday with
Lipscomb coming to town. The Hatters and the Bisons are scheduled to begin at
2:00 p.m.
