Volleyball Picked 10th in Preseason Poll

The Stetson volleyball team was predicted to finish 10th in the 2013 Atlantic Sun Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, which the league released on Wednesday. The Hatters (4-31, 0-18 in 2012) received 23 points in the poll.

Florida Gulf Coast was projected to capture the A-Sun regular season title, earning 90 total points and four first place votes.

Senior outside hitter Kaley Melville (New Germany, Minn.) finished runner-up in the online fan voting for A-Sun Preseason Player of the Year. Melville averaged 2.74 kills and 2.78 digs per set last season, and she enters her senior campaign just 135 kills shy of 1000 for her career.

Stetson's other returning senior is middle hitter Ellen Hawks (Austin, Tex.), who racked up a rally-scoring era school-record 115 blocks last season. Her 0.93 blocks per set average ranked fifth in the Atlantic Sun.

Head coach Tim Loesch begins his third season with the program, which opens at the UniWyo Invitational in Laramie, Wyo. on Aug. 30-31.
