Women's Tennis Drops Road Tilt at ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Stetson women's tennis team lost for the first time since Jan. 19 on Saturday, falling on the road at ETSU by a score of 6-1. The Bucs snapped the Hatters' school record 10-game winning streak.

“I am very proud of my team today,” Stetson Director of Tennis Pierre Pilote said. “I know that our doubles can do much better and I am certain that we will raise our level at FGCU on Wednesday. Our singles will also have to improve, but again, I am confident that we can elevate our performance at each position.”

ETSU won at both number two and number three doubles to secure the first point of the match and get the Bucs out on the right foot. On court one, Stetson senior Diana Bukajeva and freshman Isabella Fernandez were tied 7-7 against Lyn Yee Choo and Anna Gerbasi before the match went unfinished.

The Bucs took the first three singles matches to clinch the victory with a 4-0 advantage. ETSU won in straight sets at the five, four, and three positions.

Bukajeva earned the lone victory for Stetson on the day. The senior won 6-4, 7-5 against Choo at the number one position to cut ETSU's advantage to 4-1. The Bucs then went on to win a pair of three-set tilts at number six and number two to finish with the 6-1 triumph.

Stetson (10-2) will continue its three-match road trip to start Atlantic Sun Conference play on Wednesday. The Hatters take on Florida Gulf Coast at 11 a.m. in Fort Myers.
