DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson University sophomore Kristin Lind (Tierp, Sweden) has been named the Atlantic Sun Scholar-Athlete of the Year for sand volleyball, the league announced on Wednesday.
Joining Lind on the academic all-conference team is senior Maren Rygh (Tonsberg, Norway).
Lind and Rygh have partnered at the No. 2 seed all-season long, and as a pair, they earned first team all-conference honors on Tuesday. The duo have compiled a 19-2 overall record and a perfect 8-0 mark in A-Sun play. They won 14 matches in a row to open the season and earned A-Sun Pair of the Week honors on March 11. They also recently claimed the bronze bracket championship at the Fiesta on Siesta Key pairs tournament.
Lind, an Accounting major, carries a perfect 4.0 GPA academically. Rygh maintains a 3.33 GPA and is set to graduate this May with a Bachelor's degree in Finance. It is the second year in row Rygh has been selected to the academic all-conference team.
Lind is Stetson's second sand volleyball student-athlete to earn Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. Katie DiGirolamo was selected in 2012.
The Hatters (18-3) will enter this weekend's Atlantic Sun Championship as the No. 1 seed and will play the winner of the FGCU - UNF match at 1 p.m. on Friday. The double elimination tournament runs through Saturday. Stetson is the defending champion.
