Hatters Visit Wildcats on Wednesday

Volusia County's only Division I basketball rivalry resumes on Wednesday when Stetson visits Bethune-Cookman, 7 p.m. at Moore Gymnasium. The game will not be televised but can be heard locally on WSBB AM 1230 and 1490 or on-line at www.myam1230.com.

The Hatters (9-15) are seeking just their second true road win of the season. Stetson has dominated the series, winning 22 of 29 previous meetings. But the Wildcats (4-20) won, 96-94, last year in DeLand.

Stetson will be trying to bounce back after suffering an 89-86 loss at home to Jacksonville on Monday. Derick Newton 923) and Divine Myles (22) combined to score 45 points for Stetson, but JU was able to hold off the Hatters down the stretch to earn the win.

Bethune-Cookman has last two straight, including a 73-66 loss at Norfolk State on Saturday.

News & Notes
•Sophomore Derick Newton (986) needs just 14 points to become the 3rd Hatter this season and 35th in program history to reach 1,000 career points. Divine Myles (1,180) and Brian Pegg (1,032) each reached the milestone earlier this season.
•Newton has been on a scoring tear of late with five consecutive games of 20 or more points, including back-to-back 30-point efforts against USC Upstate (30) and Jacksonville (31). His 131 total points in the last 5 games is the most by a Hatter since Jason Alexander had 135 during a four-game stretch in the 1995-96 season.
•Luke Doyle has 59 3-pointers this season after making five Monday against Bethune-Cookman. He is the third player in program history to make 50 or more in consecutive seasons. He set the Stetson season record with 72 last season.
•Angel Rivera passed the 400-assist mark for his career with 5 Monday against Jacksonville. His 403 assists ranks 5th in program history.
