Iowa State Hands Hatters Another Tough Loss

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.—Stetson women's tennis suffered another tough defeat on Sunday when the Hatters dropped a 4-0 decision to Iowa State at Flagler College.

Despite the loss, which drops Stetson's record to 0-6 on the season, head coach Travis Sandlant was encouraged by his team's play this weekend. Stetson lost to Charleston Southern on Saturday, 5-2.

"We played some good tennis this weekend," Sandlant said. "It was a super tight match both days, which is the kind of pressure we need to play under for conference."

Iowa State won two of three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Stetson's duo of Maja Salibasic and Arijana Korac emerged with a 6-4 win at No. 1, but the Cycles took victories at Nos. 2 and 3 for the early lead.

In singles play, the Hatters pushed the Cyclones into the third set in two matches, and were either tied or leading in two others when play was halted.

The Hatters suffered losses at Nos. 1, 4 and 5 as Iowa State clinched the match. Korac took Iowa State's Samantha Budai to a third set at No. 1 where she lost, 6-4. Salibasic won her first set by a 7-5 count at No. 2 but wasn't able to finish. Danielle Peele at No. 6 was tied in the second set of her match when play concluded.

Stetson next hosts Oakland, 2 p.m., Wednesday, at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
