Hatters Edged by Georgia Southern

DeLAND—Stetson women's tennis dropped a 4-3 affair to Georgia Southern on Saturday at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.

The Hatters (0-3) pushed the Eagles (3-0) to the final singles of the day match before falling. Stetson head coach Travis Sandlant was disappointed with the outcome, but pleased with his team's overall effort.

"We can hold our heads high today," he said. "It was a tough match. We played some good doubles today, unfortunately just couldn't close the opportunity at the one spot that would have given us a lot of momentum into the singles."

Georgia Southern opened the match by winning the doubles point. The Eagles earned victories at Nos. 1 and 3 to gain a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard.

The Hatters, however, came out strong in singles play by winning three of the first four results.

After Georgia Southern picked up a win at No. 5 for a 2-0 lead, the Hatters won the next three matches. Maja Salibasic was the first Hatter to post a victory, winning 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2. Lucie Renault followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3, before Arijana Korac gave the Hatters a 3-2 lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1.

Georgia Southern evened the match with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 4, then clinched the match with a three set win at No. 6.

The Hatters return to action when they visit UCF, Sunday, Feb. 12.
