Huge Weekend Ahead for Stetson Beach

South Carolina match to air on WatchESPN

DeLand, Fla. -- The Hatters have played a demanding schedule all season long, and this weekend's slate will be no different.

The Stetson beach volleyball team will face four Top 10 opponents at the Gamecock Grand Slam in Columbia, S.C.

The 13th-ranked Hatters (5-8) will face the No. 9 Georgia State Panthers (10-5) at 9 a.m. Saturday in a rematch of last week's thrilling contest in Tavares, Fla.

At 1 p.m., Stetson will face tournament host and 9th-ranked South Carolina (11-1) in a match broadcast live on SEC+ and the WatchESPN app for qualified cable subscribers.   The Hatters lead the all-time series 2-0 over the Gamecocks.

Sunday, the Hatters face top-ranked, undefeated, and defending national champion USC (12-0) at 9 a.m.  The teams last met at the FIU Surf and Turf last year with the Trojans earning a 4-1 victory.

At 3 p.m., Stetson will battle No. 4 Florida State (8-4) for the second time this season.  The Noles defeated the Hatters 4-1 on March 4 in DeLand.

"We have another opportunity to play Georgia State and Florida State, and we get to see South Carolina, who has also been doing really well in the Eastern Region," Stetson head coach Kristina Hernandez said.  "This is our last opportunity before conference play starts to fight for some positioning in the Eastern Region and work for an NCAA bid at the end of the year."
