Hatters Use Strong Singles Effort to Topple Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga.—Stetson won five of six singles matches en route to a 5-2 win at Kennesaw State, Saturday at Betty Siegel Courts.

Saturday's victory, coupled with Thursday's win at Lipscomb, gives the Hatters (5-12 overall, 2-2 ASUN) a weekend sweep of Atlantic Sun Conference play.

Stetson was forced to rally in singles play after dropping the doubles point. But the Hatters dominated the Owls in singles, and they clinched the match when sophomore Alexe Viaud rallied for a three-set win at No. 6.

"It was an awesome fight today after the doubles," Stetson head coach Travis Sandlant said. "Everyone should be proud of their efforts today. It was great for Alexe to clinch the match for us. To come from a set down and be in a similar position like this previously, it was great to see her pull it out."

The Hatters actually trailed 2-0 after Kennesaw State won the first singles match, at No. 5. Stetson quickly rallied as Lucie Renault and Arijana Korac earned straight set wins at No. 3 and No. 1, respectively.

Danielle Peele gave the Hatters a 4-3 lead with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5, and Viaud clinched the match with her 2-6, 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 6.

Maja Salibasic finished off a successful singles run for the Hatters with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win at No. 2.

The Hatters continue ASUN play when they host NJIT, 6 p.m., Thursday, April 6.
