Salibasic Leads Hatters to ASUN Tournament Win

FORT MYERS—Maja Salibasic rallied from an early deficit at No. 2 singles to claim a three-set victory and send Stetson women's tennis to a 4-2 win over Lipscomb in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament quarterfinals, Friday at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
 
The Hatters will next face regular-season champion FGCU in Saturday's semifinals.

"It was a big team effort after the doubles today," head coach Travis Sandlant said. "We just wouldn't go away. It was a great clinch win from Maja."
 
After losing the first set, 6-2, Salibasic won a second-set tiebreaker to force a third set, where she outlasted Madeline Brooks, 6-2, for the win.
 
Play began with Lipscomb taking the doubles, as the Bisons earned victories at No. 1 and No. 2 for a 1-0 lead.
 
Stetson quickly evened the match as Alexe Viaud cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles. Lipscomb gained a straight set victory at No. 1, but Stetson again tied things up as Sofia Ferding earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 4.
 
With the score tied 2-2, the Hatters lost the first set in each of the remaining singles matches but rallied to win the second set on each court, sending all the matches to a decisive third set.
 
Lucie Renault was the first Hatter to break through, getting a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 to give the Hatters a 3-2 lead and setting the stage for Salibasic's clincher.

"Lucie came back from a set down to give Maja an opportunity to pull out the win," Sandlant said. "No one gave up."
 
Danielle Peele also reached a third set at No. 5 and leading, 4-1 when play was halted.
