Hatters Face Kennesaw State on Saturday

Stetson men's basketball looks to finish the weekend strong when the Hatters visit ASUN Conference foe Kennesaw State, 4:30 p.m., Saturday.

The Hatters (6-10, 0-1) began conference play on Thursday with a disappointing 66-63 loss to Lipscomb in DeLand. Mahamdou Diawara scored 14 points and Rob Perry added 13, but once the Hatters fell behind midway through the second half they couldn't catch the Bisons.

Stetson opened the week with a 63-56 win at South Carolina.

Kennesaw State (1-13, 0-1) has struggled all season and suffered a conference-opening loss to North Florida on Thursday. Bryson Locksley scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Owls.

Game Notes
•The Hatters continue their 34th season of play in the ASUN Conference on Saturday. Stetson has been a member of the ASUN since the 1986-87 season and the Hatters are currently the longest tenured league member.
•The Hatters are 248-315 (.440) all-time in ASUN regular season games
•Saturday's game features two of the ASUN's three first-year head coaches in Donnie Jones (Stetson) and Amir Abdur Rahim (Kennesaw State)
•Stetson is looking to avoid its second straight 0-2 start in conference play
•Junior guard Kenny Aninye grew up in nearby Marietta, Ga., and graduated from Wheeler High

Under the Hat
•Stetson's win at South Carolina on Monday was historic in a few ways. Not only was the victory the Hatters' first against an SEC team since 2004 (Georgia, 56-54), but it was also Stetson's first against a Power 5 opponent since an 89-79 win at Wake Forest in the 2010-11 season opener.
•Rob Perry (14.9) and Mahamadou Diawara (13.5) continue to be the highest-scoring freshman tandem in the ASUN Conference at a combined 28.4 points per game. Perry is 15th nationally among all freshmen, and his 34 points at Western Illinois on Nov. 9 is the 2nd-best single-game effort by a freshman this season.
•Perry and Diawara also rank 1-2 on the Hatters in both scoring and rebounding (6.8 per game for Diawara, 5.1 for Perry).
•The Hatters made some history on Dec. 17 when five freshmen (Diawara, Ivery, Kabimba, Panzo, Perry) were in the starting lineup at UNC Asheville, for what's believed to be the first time in program history. The Hatters regularly started four freshmen during the 2010-11 season but research has not yet turned up another all-freshman starting five.
•Through games of Dec. 31, Stetson freshman Mahamadou Diawara is 5th nationally overall in field-goal percentage (.609) and 6th among all freshmen.
