Helland-Hansen and Perales Named National Pair of the Week

DeLand, Fla. -- After going a perfect 5-0 and winning all 10 of their sets in California, Stetson seniors Sunniva Helland-Hansen (Øystese, Norway) and Carly Perales (Round Rock, Texas) have been named the AVCA/CollegeBeachVB.com national Pair of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday. They were also selected as the ASUN Pair of the Week.

Playing at the No. 2 seed, Helland-Hansen and Perales posted five straight 2-0 victories against five consecutive ranked opponents. On Saturday in Malibu, the pair defeated teams from #14 Long Beach State and #9 Pepperdine. On Sunday in Santa Monica, the duo swept a tripleheader, defeating pairs from #15 South Carolina, #14 Long Beach State, and #8 Loyola Marymount. They extended their win streak to nine in a row.

For the season, the Hatter duo is 12-2 overall at the 1 and 2 seeds combined. Their individual MoVR ratings of 44.75 rank them sixth in the nation among all players.

Now in their fourth season together, Helland-Hansen and Perales have won a school and conference record 84 matches as a pair. It is their second all-time AVCA Pair of the Week selection and fifth all-time ASUN Pair of the week honor.

The 11th-ranked Hatters (8-6) host the Stetson Beach Blast this weekend at the Cooper Beach Courts. The Hatters will welcome #3 Florida State, #4 Hawai'i, #6 USC and UAB to DeLand.
