Hatters set to face RedHawks for first time

Oxford, Ohio -- The Stetson University men's basketball team continues its three-game road trip as the Hatters travel to Miami University to take on the RedHawks for the first time. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and can be streamed on ESPN+.

Stetson comes into Wednesday's contest sporting a 1-1 mark as the Hatters come off a 77-52 loss at Georgia Tech back on Nov. 12. Chase Johnston led all Stetson scorers with 13 points, going 3-for-8 from 3-point range while Josh Smith tallied 11 points as he went 5-for-9 in field goals and grabbed six boards. 
 
Scouting the RedHawks 
Miami comes off its second consecutive win to open the year as the RedHawks are 2-0 after defeating Georgia Tech 72-69 to open the season on Nov. 9 then topped Lamar University 104-75 four days later on Nov. 13. 
 
The RedHawks offense is led by Mekhi Lairy and Dae Dae Grant as the pair averages 19.0 and 17.5 points per game, respectively. Dalonte Brown also posts an average of 12.5 points per game through Miami's first two contests while leading in rebounds per game with 8.0. The RedHawks boast a .500 field goal percentage (64-128) and a .365 3-point percentage (23-63) with 17 of the 23 coming against Lamar. The RedHawks offense has outscored their opponents by 16 thus far, averaging 88.0 points per game.

Wednesday night's matchup between Stetson and Miami will mark the first meeting between the two institutions. 
 
Scouting the Hatters
The Hatters offense is led by Johnston and Rob Perry as the Stetson pair averages 16.5 and 13.5, respectively. Perry also leads the Hatters with 5.5 boards per game followed by Smith's 4.5. Stephan Swenson leads with 5.5 assists followed by Giancarlo Valdez's 3.5.
 
The Hatters hold a .393 field goal percentage going 46-for-117 through the team's first two contests. Stetson relies on the long-ball and will have to connect on more triples going forward as the Hatters have gone only 13-for-51 for a .255 3-point percentage. 
 
Looking Ahead
Stetson concludes its three-game road trip on Friday, Nov. 19 as the Hatters take on Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas in a non-conference affair. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. EST and can be streamed on ESPN+.
