Ana Costa Named ASUN Preseason Player of the Year

Carly Perales Earns Preseason All-Conference Honors

DeLand, Fla. – Stetson University senior Ana Costa (Sergipe, Brazil) has been selected as the 2021 ASUN Conference Beach Volleyball Preseason Player of the Year, the league announced on Wednesday.

Fellow senior Carly Perales (Round Rock, Texas) joins Costa Costa on the preseason all-conference team, as selected by the league's head coaches.

It is the fifth straight year the Hatters have claimed ASUN Preseason Player of the Year honors.

In 2020, Costa went 11-3 at Pair 1 and Pair 2, winning her first 10 matches of the season. She went 5-0 at the Seminole Beach Bash and 4-0 and the Stetson Spring Fling, earning ASUN Pair of the Week honors on Feb. 25. Overall, she earned victories over seven ranked opponents, including Top 10 wins over No. 2 Florida State and No. 7 Cal Poly.

In 2019, Costa was a First Team All-Conference selection after going 27-13 at Pair 3. She holds a .704 career winning pct.

A two-time first-team all-conference performer, Carly Perales went 12-2 last season at Pair 1 and Pair 2. She went 4-0 at the Stetson Spring Fling and 5-0 on the trip to California, defeating five straight ranked opponents and earning the AVCA National Pair of the Week award. Overall, she picked up wins over nine ranked opponents, including Top 10 wins over No. 7 Cal Poly, No. 8 LMU, and No. 9 Pepperdine.

In her career, Perales has garnered two ASUN Pair of the Tournament and five ASUN Pair of the Week awards. She received AVCA All-America honors in 2019, and she ranks fifth in school history with 84 career dual wins (84-28, .750).

In addition, sophomore Kamryn Johnson was tabbed the ASUN Fan Voted Preseason Player of the Year.

The Hatters are ranked 11th nationally in the AVCA preseason poll. The season begins Feb. 28 at the Cooper Beach Courts.
