Hatters return to the Edmunds Center to host KSU

DeLand, Fla. -- The Stetson University men's basketball team gets set for another ASUN Conference contest as the Hatters host Kennesaw State on Saturday, Jan. 15. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.

Stetson comes off a tough road loss to Jacksonville University back on Tuesday, Jan. 11 as the Hatters fell to the Dolphins 57-50. It was the Hatters second lowest scoring contest of the year as both teams combined for 107 points. Christiaan Jones led all Hatters scorers with 16 points and Chase Johnston extended his double figure scoring streak to eight games in a row as the sophomore tallied 13 points. 
 
Scouting the Owls
Kennesaw State enters Saturday's game with a 6-8 overall record and is 1-0 in ASUN Conference action. The Owls opened ASUN play on Thursday with a 77-53 rout of FGCU. The win was KSU's second win over an NCAA Division I opponent on the year. The Owls outscored the Eagles 50-33 in the second half Thursday night after leading 27-20 at the break. The Owls nearly shot 50 percent from the field, going 31-for-63 and were 7-for-12 from beyond the arc. 
 
The Owls display a balanced offense as KSU features three players who average double figures. Chris Youngblood leads all Kennesaw State scorers with 13.7 points per game while Terrell Burden and Spencer Rodgers each average 12.5 and 11.9, respectively. As a team, the Owls are shooting 47.4 percent from the field and 36.2 percent from long range. 
 
All-Time Series
Saturday's contest between the Hatters and the Owls will be the 33rd time that Stetson and Kennesaw State square off, dating back to 2006. The all-time series between the two schools is tied at 16 wins and 16 losses apiece as Saturday will be a series tiebreaker. The Owls and the Hatters are each 1-1 in their last two games against one another. Stetson has topped Kennesaw State in their last three meetings in DeLand. 
 
Scouting the Hatters
Stetson enters Saturday's contest with a 7-9 overall record and is 1-2 in ASUN Conference action. Stetson has performed better at home than on the road this season as the Hatters have a 5-3 record at the Edmunds Center and are 2-6 away from DeLand.
 
Rob Perry continues to lead the Hatters with 15.9 points per game while Chase Johnston and Christiaan Jones each average 12.8 and 12.0 points per game, respectively. Perry is currently fourth in the league with an 87.5 free throw percentage and his 15.9 points per game are good for fifth in the league. Johnston is second in the ASUN with 50 made 3-point field goals. 
 
Looking Ahead
After its bout with Kennesaw State, Stetson welcomes FCGU to the Edmunds Center as the Hatters host the Eagles in another ASUN Conference matchup. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
