Hatters with a quick turnaround, get ready to face EKU

DeLand, Fla. -- The Stetson University men's basketball team gets set for a quick turnaround as the Hatters host Eastern Kentucky University on Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Edmunds Center. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.

Recap
Stetson enters Saturday's game coming off a 77-49 loss to Bellarmine Thursday evening at the Edmunds Center. The Hatters never led in the contest as Stetson shot 28.3 percent from the field. It was the first time Stetson shot under 30 percent since shooting 19.6 percent against Florida on Dec. 6, 2020.

Chase Johnston led all Stetson scorers on the night as the sophomore tallied 13 points in his 30 minutes on the floor. Mahamadou Diawara rebounded well for the Hatters as the junior brought down 10 boards.

Scouting the Colonels
Eastern Kentucky comes into Saturday's contest with a 10-11 overall record and is 2-5 in ASUN Conference action. EKU plays better at home than on the road as the Colonels are 9-4 on their home court but 1-7 away from Alumni Coliseum.

EKU sports a well-balanced offense as six Colonels average 9.0 points per game or more with four boasting an average of double figures. Devontae Blanton leads the Colonels with 11.1 points per game while Jannson Williams, Braxton Beverly and Cooper Robb each average 10.9, 10.1 and 10.0 points per game, respectively. As a team, EKU shoots 42.4 percent from the field and 35.0 percent from long range. The Colonels 80.3 points per game leads the league as EKU's highest point total was 121 points against Midway back on Dec. 18 and their lowest was 61 points against Bellarmine on Jan. 8. The Colonels' defense has held their opponents under 90 points through every game thus far.

All-Time Series
Saturday's contest will be the second all-time meeting between Stetson and EKU as the first meeting between the Colonels and the Hatters was back on Dec. 19, 1986. Stetson got the best of EKU as the Hatters topped the Colonels 88-68.

Scouting the Hatters
Stetson enters play on Saturday with an 8-12 overall record and like EKU, the Hatters are 2-5 in ASUN action. Stetson is 5-6 at the Edmunds Center following Thursday night's loss to Bellarmine. The Hatters have only won back-to-back games twice this season but are 5-5 when following a loss.

Rob Perry continues to lead the Hatters with 15.9 points per game. Johnston follows Perry with 12.7 while Christiaan Jones averages 12.0m per game. The Hatters shoot 43.0 percent from the field and 33.2 percent from 3-point range.

Looking Ahead
After Stetson squares off against EKU, the Hatters head to Nashville on Feb. 3 to face Lipscomb and then to Conway, Arkansas on Feb. 5 to take on Central Arkansas. Tip-off against the Bison is set for 8:15 p.m. EST and then 4 p.m. against the Bears. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+
