Hatters head to KSU for final regular season roadtrip

Kennesaw, Ga. -- The Stetson University men's basketball team gets set for its final regular season road trip as the Hatters head to Kennesaw State University on Wednesday, Feb. 23 for a rematch with the Owls. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.

Recap
Stetson comes off one of its toughest losses of the year as the Hatters battled it out against Liberty back on Saturday night at Liberty Arena. Stetson fell 88-82 in a game that saw Chase Johnston tie the Stetson basketball record for made 3-pointers in a game with eight while also putting up 38 points. It was the first time a Hatter scored over 35 points in a game since Jason Alexander scored 36 against FIU back in 1996. Christiaan Jones also made history as the Columbia, S.C. native became the ninth member of the 1500-career point club as the graduate student tallied 15 points in the second half after entering the second stanza with only four.

Scouting the Owls
KSU enters Wednesday's game on a three-game skid as the Owls have dropped three-straight to North Florida, FGCU, and most recently a 59-56 decision to Jacksonville on Feb. 19. KSU is 11-16 overall and 6-8 in the ASUN as the Owls host the Hatters on Wednesday night and then finish the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 26 at Liberty.

The Owls sport a balanced offense, led by sophomore guard Chris Youngblood. Youngblood averages 13.5 points per game for the Owls, good for 11th in the ASUN. Terrell Burden and Spencer Rodgers are KSU's two other double figure scorers as the pair averages 11.7 and 10.2 points per game respectively. As a team the Owls shoot 46.2 percent from the field, good for fourth in the league, and 34.9 percent from beyond the arc, good for seventh in the ASUN.

Last Time We Met
The Hatters and the Owls first met this season back on Jan. 15 as KSU got the best of Stetson 77-49. The Hatters look to split the season series with the Owls Wednesday night.

Scouting the Hatters
Stetson also enters Wednesday's game on a three-game slide as the Hatters have lost three in a row to FGCU, Jacksonville and most recently to Liberty. The Hatters control their own ASUN Conference tournament fate as Stetson's final two games are against the two teams directly above them in the standings.

The Hatters have been led all season by Johnston and Jones and to grab a higher seed in the conference tournament, that needs to be the case this weekend. The pair have been two of the top players in the ASUN this season. Johnston's 38-point burst upped his points per game average to 14.7, good for eighth in the league. Jones sits at 12.8 and is 13th in the ASUN. The Hatters bench will be important Wednesday night as it had zero points against the Flames after having 16 in Stetson's 63-57 win against JSU back on Feb. 9.

Looking Ahead
After the Hatters' bout with the Owls, Stetson returns home to the Edmunds Center for Senior Day and the regular season finale as the Hatters host North Florida. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
