Rockville, Md. – The Stetson women's golf team opened play in its final tune up event prior to the ASUN Championship on Saturday morning at the Hoya Invitational at historic Woodmont Country Club.
The tournament opened on Saturday morning with play over 36 holes. The final round is scheduled for Sunday morning.
Like many collegiate events, the Hoya Invitational is returning after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid pandemic. The event dates back 2003 and has had nine different team champions over 16 tournaments with Princeton (4), Georgetown (3) and Nova Southeastern (3) having won the tournament multiple times.
The Hatters took just four players to the tournament – graduate
Hanna Kiefer, senior
Bianca Sol Cruz, junior
Wendy Hsiao and sophomore
Lisa Colee – due to a rash of injuries.
The rest of the field includes teams from the host school as well as Boston University, Columbia, Harvard, Howard, Princeton, Quinnipiac, Seton Hall, St. John's Towson, Penn and Yale.
The course at the Woodmont Country Club, which has served as the host for the US Women's Amateur as we all for multiple US Open and US Women's Open sectional qualifying events, has been set up to play to a par of 72 over 6,185 yards.
