Stetson University sophomore right-hander Austin Amaral was selected as the ASUN Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performance last week in two Hatters victories.
 
The Debary native made his first collegiate start last Tuesday, throwing six shutout innings against No. 23 Florida State, leading the Hatters to a 6-0 victory over the Seminoles. He allowed just two hits and struck out six in earning his third victory of the season.
 
Amaral came back on Sunday to make his first start in ASUN play, pitching into the fifth inning before surrendering a pair of earned runs and a pair of unearned runs. Overall, he went 4.1 innings with three strikeouts in a game the Hatters won 7-5 in 10 innings.
 
For the season Amaral has appeared in 18 games and has a 3.43 ERA in 39.1 innings of work with 41 strikeouts.
 
Amaral is the 28^th Stetson player to be named ASUN Pitcher of the Week, the first this season, since the award was first presented in 1996. Hatters pitchers have combined to win the honor 45 times.
 
He is the fourth member of the current Stetson pitching staff to have earned a Pitcher of the Week award joining Chris Gonzalez and Nick Durgin, who both have won twice, and Anthony DeFabbia.
 
The Hatters will be back in action on Tuesday night at Melching Field when South Florida visits. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. Stetson will face the Bulls again next week in Tampa following a weekend trip to play at Kennesaw State.
 
Stetson will close out the 2022 regular season the weekend of May 19-21 at home against Jacksonville.
