DeLand, Fla. – Stetson will return to the court on Friday, Dec. 29 to host the Charlotte 49ers for a 7pm tip off. The Hatters will be looking to redeem themselves after losing to the 49ers 62-85, on Dec. 5.
History
The Hatters are 1-1 against the 49ers. The teams last met on December 5, 2023. They first faced off on December 13, 1969, with the Hatters winning in DeLand, 122-69.
Scouting the Hatters (7-6, ASUN 0-0)
The Hatters are coming off a 1-2 road trip where they beat FIU while dropping games to Omaha and Cincinnati. The seven-day stretch showcased the scrappiness of the Hatters proving that they can't be counted out of a game. Cincinnati struggled guarding Jalen Blackmon as he tied his season high 32 points and sent the Hatters, who rank 1st in the NCAA in free throw percentage, to the line 29 times. However, the Hatters defense couldn't stop the Bearcat offense late to complete the comeback. Stetson will look to continue their excellent three-point shooting and when the shots aren't falling, they'll look to work the ball inside and draw fouls.
Jalen Blackmon leads the Hatters this season averaging 23.3 points per game (fifth in the NCAA). He is shooting 47.4% from the field and 46.9% from beyond the arc. Blackmon currently ranks third in the NCAA in 3-point field goals made per game with 4.07 while also ranking second in the NCAA in total 3-point field goals made with 53. Blackmon also ranks sixth, in the NCAA, in free throw percentage hitting on 96.3 percent. Aubin Gateretse has tallied four double doubles this season while averaging 10.8 points per game and leading the team with 7.5 rebounds per game. Stephan Swenson, the Hatters' floor general, has been racking up the assists this season totaling 86 assists. Swenson is also averaging 10.8 points per game and 5.1 rebounds. Thompson had one of his best games of the season against Cincinnati scoring 13 points, while shooting perfect from the field, and grabbing 6 rebounds.
Stetson as a team is averaging 78.5 points per game while shooting 46.5% from the field and 37.2% from three. The team averages 10.1 three points per game. The Hatters are averaging 11.8 free throws per game and are first in the NCAA shooting 81.9% from the charity stripe. The team has out rebounded their opponents by 3.2 rebounds per game keeping the opposing team from getting second chance points.
Last game against Charlotte, Blackmon was the only Stetson player to record double figures in points, putting up 28. In that game, the Hatters only shot 31.6% from beyond the arc with Blackmon hitting half of them. The Hatters will look to have an improved defensive presence in the paint in this match up.

Charlotte is coming off a 91-44 victory over Greensboro College on Friday, Dec. 22. The 49ers are average 68.1 points per game, shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from three. The team has hit 76% of their free throws and they average 11.8 per game. Lu'Cye Patterson leads the 49ers averaging 13.6 points per game while also picking up 29 assists, and 15 steals. Milicic Jr is Charlotte's big man inside averaging 11.5 points per game and 8.6 rebounds. The last time the teams played, the 49ers had four players in double figures including Jackson, Milicic jr, Braswell, and Reiber. Milicic Jr also grabbed 9 rebounds that game.
