Women's Tennis Welcomes Three New Athletes

DELAND, Fla. – Women's Tennis has added three new student-athletes to their roster for the upcoming season. All three athletes come from different countries as they join a team that finished runners up in last year's ASUN Tournament.
 
"It's exciting to have a recruiting class like this one" said Head Coach Travis Sandlant. "They all have great international experience, with some good results. They all have been training at some top academies and institutions so I know they will be ready to play at the level we need."
 
Clelia Lombardi joins the Hatters from Osimo, Italy. She was a finalist at the J5 doubles in Portimao, Portugal, Vale do Lobo, Portugal and the J5 in Fujairah. During that time, she was partnered with Cléanne Pickel who will also be joining Stetson this year. In May of 2022, Lombardi also played in the JA in Milan. She had an ITF Junior ranking of 1169 and ITF Singles Ranking of 1186. Lombardi attended Mouratoglou Tennis Academy. She is the daughter of Antonietta Lombardi and will be studying Business Management while at Stetson.
 
The next new Hatter is Zali Morris who is from Beaumaris, Australia. She has a career WTA ranking of #1214. Morris qualified for the main draw W15 in Calundra, Australia. During her junior career she was the #6 Junior in Australia. She also ranked in the top 50 women tennis players in Australia. Morris was a member of the Tennis Australia National Academy for 5 years and during that time she was the Victorian State Team Representative from 2015-2018. She was also a State Champion at the Victorian Junior Grass Championship in 2021. Morris is the daughter of Paul and Lydia Morris and she will be studying Business Administration at Stetson.
 
The final new Hatter to the women's tennis team is Cléanne Pickel from Solothurn, Switzerland. She was a finalist at the J5 doubles in Portimao, Portugal, Vale do Lobo, Portugal and the J5 in Fujairah. She was also a quarterfinalist at the J5 singles in Fujairah, Portugal and J4 Abidjan. Pickel has a Junior National Ranking of 12 in Switzerland and a Senior National Ranking of 80. Her ITF Junior Ranking is 1366 and she attended the prestigious Mouratoglou Tennis Academy. Pickel is the daughter of Sina and Gebhard Pickel. She will be studying Business Administration at Stetson.
